Thank you! I read your trip blog about your visit to China. My sister and I are considering this teaching trip with Elderhostel.org for next year and your trip report gave us much information/encouragement. Thanks.

Hello Ujima! Hope you have a lovely time, do take care with any asthma though as it is very 'smoggy' from the polution.
Which part of China are you planning to go to?

It's the same trip you took. Elderhostel.org is sponsoring it. My doctor is worried about me and my asthma and recommends that I not go. I have a while yet before committing but do so want to go.

I wonder how long you will be going for, ujima, but neither my friend or I are asthmatic, and we both had chessy infections. I smoke but she doesn't, so that didn't seem to make any difference.
A lot of people do wear masks, and I don't know how you would feel about that, but it might be worth considering.
China are supposed to be getting the smog sorted prior to the olympics, so that might make a difference. Good luck with it, and I know you'll love it if you do decide to go. x

It's the same trip you took, but I'd be going with the Elderhostel group. They're referenced on the iandi site.
I've been known to smoke a fag or two while having a pint or two or three, but don't smoke regularly.
I doubt that China will be able to get that smog sorted. I've been watching the reports of their attempts on our national news programs and also on BBC World News.
There's plenty of time between now and then for me to make my final decision. I really want to go and really want to see the terra cotta soldiers.

Ah, you'll be fine then, ujima! One tip: don't bother taking any toiletries, the supermarket 'Ren Ren Le' has everything you need, all really cheap. You will also need to buy any fruit, puds, milk etc you would like, but again, these are all really cheap. And, do try the 'ladies' cigarettes if/when you do smoke. And, get them to take you to the kareoke - huge fun!
Have a great time and do keep me up to day with all your preps, won't you? xxx
